Syndicate19 Chronicle ~ Volume 1, Issue 9

It is nearly summer in Old Orchard Beach, and it could be felt at Referees Sports Bar. The door was open to a pretty full bar when Syndicate19 arrived.

The guys got to work unloading and setting up. As usual patrons curiousity peaked as all the equipment came in, especially with Leigh’s electric drum kit.

Meanwhile, at the back of the bar a woman started rocking out with spoons, clicking and slapping away to songs being played on the juke box.

Syndicate19 started the first set at 8:30 with a cover of Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” and people were instantly on the dance floor, which didn’t stop bouncing all night.

Laurie, the spoon player, was called up to jam with the band on “OBC.” She picked right up on the beat and was an awesome addition to the song.

The second set had a bit of a rough start with Brian Wilson, but they recovered pretty quickly. A cover of “Closer” got everyone up and dancing again, including the coolest 70ish year old couple. There is nothing better than older folks who still let loose and have a good time.

Syndicate19 took an early break and then started the thrid set with a Beatles cover. They also played a lot of originals during this set including “Huh?,” “Stupid Monkey” and “Don’t Wait.” After they played “Don’t Wait” a blond woman in the crowd yelled “Man, you guys rock! You’re too big for this bar!”

The next night the band played at a new place in Windham called Club 302.

It’s a really big place with a nice stage. They instantly filled the room and got people on the dance floor. The band played an extra long set at the end of the night and included some originals they hadn’t played for a while like “Sun.” Syndicate19 was full of energy and having so much fun at this awesome club that they gave away a couple of shirts by throwing them into the crowd. They are definitely looking forward to playing there again in July.
